The 2017 Budleigh Salterton Literary Festival Young Writer Bursaries

Young Writer Alert!

For the third year, Budleigh Salterton Literary Festival is delighted to be able to offer two aspiring young writers the chance to take a major step in their literary careers.

For 2017 we have two places secured on the prestigious and potentially life changing Starting To Write residential course offered by the internationally renowned Arvon Foundation at their Totleigh Barton centre in North Devon. Each place is worth £760. The course runs from August 14th-19th, 2017.

The Arvon Foundation is a national arts-based charity which aims to encourage creative writing.

Award winning Mark Haddon, author of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time, who appeared at the 2016 Budleigh Salterton Literary Festival said: “I’ve been a student on two Arvon courses and I’ve taught seven. I know how life changing they can be for aspiring writers.”

Past winners of the Budleigh Salterton Literary Festival Arvon Bursary have been incredibly positive about their experiences. One said: “I have never received such thorough and honest feedback on any piece of my work.”Another described it as “The experience of a lifetime.”

Prestigious writers from all disciplines are among the patrons of Arvon and include the poets Simon Armitage and Carol Ann Duffy, rock musician Pete Townsend and novelist and broadcaster Salman Rushdie.
