Festival Sketches by Jed Falby
I suppose drawing is like writing.
I heard all those writers talking about eliminating the unnecessary words
to concentrate on the essential of their story.
That’s what a drawing does.
It eliminates all the distracting details and goes for the essential.
For me, that’s mostly people.
faces, figures, expressions. Life.
In my drawings there is usually only an indication of the setting.
Just enough to let the viewer know where we are.
Each drawing tells me something new about whatever it is I am drawing.
No matter how commonplace the subject, once I begin to really observe it,
and to draw it, I discover how absolutely unique and uncommon it is.
